Jay M. K. Stone

Jay M. K. Stone, CPSWQ 1205, CPESC 3789, was recognized as ECI’s Annual Service Award recipient for 2019.  He has been the Hawaii State Representative for CPESC since 2007 and has actively worked to increase the number of certified professionals in Hawaii.

Mr. Stone has worked in the local engineering consulting industry since 1993 and is currently Director of Engineering for Belt Collins Hawaii LLC overseeing marketing, quality reviews, mentoring and project support for the department.  He specializes in stormwater management, treatment and inspection, process design, best management practices, permitting, desalination, ecosystem restoration, water and wastewater systems, and training. His experience includes working on various government infrastructure as well as private development projects.

Mr. Stone holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and is a licensed civil engineer in Hawaii.  He is also a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality, Erosion and Sediment Control Plan Coordinator, Board-Certified Environmental Engineer in water supply and wastewater with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, Certified Floodplain Manager, Certified Water Pollution Plan Preparer, and LEED Accredited Professional. He is a former instructor with the University of Hawaii Outreach Program Water Technology Education Program.

Mr. Stone is active in several professional organizations including the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (Hawaii State Representative), Water Environment Federation, Hawaii Water Environment Association, American Water Works Association, Association of State Floodplain Managers, American Public Works Association, and the International Society of Automation.

He is the author/co-author of several presentations given at various conferences in Hawaii and most recently in Illinois and North Carolina where he presented “Urban Storm Water BMP Retrofits in Hawaii” at the Stormwater Solutions Conference & Exhibition and the 2020 IECA Annual Conference and Expo.  His presentation addressed the retrofitting stormwater structures in urban Honolulu.

A practitioner of aikido since 1988, Mr. Stone teaches children, teenagers, and adults at the Kaonohi Zanshin Aikido dojo.  He is also a podcaster on ComicsViews (http://comicsviews.com/), discussing comics, film, and television pop culture.
