Van Willem (Bill) Peralta is a third-year double major in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis. He is currently the fundraising chair for the Davis chapter of Engineers Without Borders, a non-profit organization that provides health and welfare solutions for disadvantaged communities around the world. Additionally, he is conducting undergraduate research on the material properties of bio-based composites (such as polylactic acid) to develop more sustainable building materials compared to conventional steel and concrete. He hopes to apply his knowledge by helping poor communities in his home country of the Philippines. Outside of academia, his hobbies include motorsports and competitive powerlifting.
