Nancy Schumm

Nancy Schumm, a Professional Wetland Scientist, has over 20 years of experience in wetland permittings, regulations, erosion and sediment  control inspections and stormwater design.  Her education includes a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University and continuing science coursework from Howard County Community College.

Nancy spent 31 years working and learning in midwestern prairies and wetlands where she was the Executive Director of a Park District in Long Grove, Illinois, then worked for Integrated Lakes Management, a private consulting firm, managing restoration efforts in waterways and wetlands.  She spent 3 years as the Executive Director of  the Barrington Area Conservation Trust, managing natural resource protection strategies and then started her own business, Schumm Consulting LLC.  In this capacity she  focused on Wetland and Environmental Guidance for homeowners associations and municipalities, partnered with Manhard Consulting on drainage improvements and MS4 reviews and worked as a Designated Erosion Control Inspector (DECI) for private clients. Nancy also led in the Coordination of  5 Watershed Partnerships, worked on historic preservation projects and worked as a Grant Writer/Instructor for her clients, raising nearly $1.3 million for environmental, historic, and social projects to complete $3 million in completed improvements. As a designer, Nancy designed, managed and oversaw the  implementation of rain-gardens and bioswales to solve drainage problems for private landowners, a public school, a church, and several community gardens.

Nancy Schumm is the award-winning author of 2 books on natural areas and plant history and 3 books on regional history. Nancy has been lecturing and presenting professional papers on historic topics nationally and internationally since 1997.  Nancy has been featured in 4 national videos on Midwestern history and interviews on Wisconsin Public Radio and WGN news. Her work has also been featured in magazines, newspapers and on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  Currently, Nancy manages the Water Resource Environmental department at PRIME AE Group, Inc. in Baltimore, Maryland.  Her department is responsible for permits, wetland and forest stand delineations, natural resource protection and making sure best management practices are in place to protect our water.

Nancy has been an active member of IECA since 2006.
