How to Become a CIHECP™: Requirements, Fees & Processes

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit an Entry-Level application through ECI Certification Management System (CMS), which will require general information on each candidate and a demonstration of good moral character.  The exam is open book open note and addresses general knowledge of stormwater principles and managing SWPPP’s.

Renewals and Continuing Education

Every certified CIHECP will be required to renew annually, which requires obtaining three (3) PDHs per year.  Additional resources to assist with PDHs can be found on the Professional Development Hours webpage.

Certification: Eligibility & Process

CIHECP are required to take the review course to qualify for the exam.

Entry level applications are completed via the EnviroCert Certification Portal, which includes an application fee of $100.  The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Upon approval, candidates will pay the exam fee of $250 and access the exam through the EnviroCert Learning Management System (LMS), which includes the CIHECP modules and two  (2) attempts at the online exam.

Exams will be taken through the EnviroCert Learning Management System (LMS).

Renewals must be completed annually via the ECI Certification Portal. CIHECP current renewal cost is $100. Renewals must be completed by the date shown on the certified professional’s wallet card. Late renewals are subject to a $75 late fee. When using a debit or credit card a 3.5% third party credit card fee will apply.

CIHECP Certified Professionals are required to complete 3 PDHs during their certification year. PDHs may be recorded in a log but must ultimately be added to each profile in the EnviroCert Certification Portal. PDHs are required for successful renewal. Each year a minimum of one (1) percent of PDH records are audited by EnviroCert.
